Job Title: Assistant Pastor

Reports To: Direct Supervisor (to be assigned)

Type of Position: Full-time salary

General Description:  The Assistant Pastor (AP) will assist the leadership of Faith Christian Center by providing care ministry to individuals and families at our church. This person must be self-motivated and enjoy equipping and unleashing God’s people to do the work of the ministry. The AP must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse age groups and ethnicities. The AP is responsible for educating himself on innovative ministerial practices that will enhance the level of service FCC provides to its members and attendees by keeping current with peers, research and trends in the fields of care ministry, small groups, leadership development and team building. The Assistant Pastor’s primary responsibilities will be Pastoral Care and Small Groups.


  • Must maintain a fresh daily prayer and devotional life.
  • Must uphold the biblical standards set forth for leaders in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 andTitus 1:6-9.

Pastoral Care

  • May be asked to preach and teach in the main sanctuary on occasion.
  • Provide counseling when/if needed.
  • Provide ministerial services such as baptisms, hospital visits, weddings, funerals and phone or home visitations when needed or requested.
  • Provide emergency on-call duties to those that contact FCC on the emergency line.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of ethics in regards to confidentiality of information with members, volunteers and attendees.
  • Establish and maintain a pastoral team for weddings, funerals, hospitalizations, baptism services, etc., ensuring a minister or seasoned layperson is available to the congregation when needed.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute a “pastoral care report” to Senior Management outlining each pastoral care situation in the church (births, divorce, marital trouble, job loss, financial crisis, deaths, etc.).
  • Lead the scheduling, programming, and overall facilitation of routine baptism services.
  • Develop an annual budget for assigned areas. Manage spending according to approved budget allocations
  • Provide leadership to assigned volunteer departments within the church.

Small Groups:

  • Directly responsible for the overall administration, coordination and day-to-day affairs of Small Groups
  • Collaborate and communicate with pastoral and support staff to ensure Small Group Ministry is ‘in sync” with the vision of the Church
  • Champion, plan and implement strategies that help accomplish the vision and mission of Small Groups.
  • Oversee Small Group Hub Leaders and Small Group Leaders through regular communication, prayer, encouragement, and personal and leadership development.
  • Implement plans for recruiting new leaders.
  • Develop ongoing training and training materials for Small Group Hub Leaders and Leaders.
  • Ensure periodic evaluation of all groups and leaders in consultation with the Small Group Hub Leaders.
  • Assist with the creation of promotional materials that promote church wide understanding of the Small Groups Ministry, its purpose and importance, and how to get connected.
  • Ensure all Small Groups materials and campaign items are ordered, received and available for semester launch (banners, Coach’s playbooks, Leadership Training Manuals, etc.)
  • Develop meaningful metrics for Small Groups i.e., growth, attendance, etc.
  • Assist with the development of the annual departmental budget and manage spending within that budget


The Assistant Pastor shall be accountable to:

  1. Direct Supervisor (to be assigned)
  2. Senior Management

Expectations for Work Hours:  The Assistant Pastor’s position is designed as a 40 hour per week position. It is understood that the AP may need to work more than 40 hours each week to be responsive to the needs of people and faithfully fulfill the roles and responsibilities of this position.

Work Requirements: Must have a strong ability to take initiative, multitask and work well under pressure.  Must provide stellar customer service to the members and attendees of FCC.  Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from Senior Management, colleagues, congregation members and the general public. The AP must enjoy his position and be able to excite and uplift others.

Additional Duties:  Assist with errands and projects. Participate in other activities both relevant to ministry and non-ministry tasks at the discretion of Senior Management.
