Rely on God

It’s usually exciting to reunite with an old friend. You’ve had many fun memories. Many of those exciting times may have occurred prior to you dedicating your life to Christ. Since it’s been years since you’ve hung out, they might be expecting a fun-filled time with the old you. What do you do?

There’s an internal war that often wages within each and every one of us. The good news is that we don’t have to rely on our own strength to make right decisions. We don’t have to be dominated by our sinful nature and end up doing the things we don’t want to do. But the only way we can live this kind of life is by yielding to the Holy Spirit and relying on the strength of Jesus Christ, not our own.

“…and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope…” Roman 8:17-20

Now back to that friend of yours. You’re faced with two choices. Do what’s easier, give in or use this as an opportunity to share your testimony and plant a seed of salvation in their life by honoring Holy Spirit’s direction. In those moments, the Holy Spirit will be there to help us in our time of need. Instead of trusting in our own strength, let’s learn to yield to and become totally reliant upon the Holy Spirit.

Are there areas in your life causing an internal struggle? Surrender and release those areas to God, knowing He will help you.
